Svenska Skolan in Tampa Bay began the fall semester on September 7, opening its doors to eager students ranging from kindergarten to 9th grade.
“We have 21 students registered this semester,” says Malin Samuelsson, secretary and teacher of grades 5-9 at the school.
Samuelsson explains there are three teachers at the school, and also a playgroup for the littlest children, ages 0-5, where talking and singing in Swedish encourages children to learn the language and take part of the Swedish culture.
“The parents themselves take turns in leading that playgroup,” she said.
There’s also an adult class taught by an American teacher, “mostly for the non-Swedish spouses,” Samuelsson says.
